Best of Last Week

British Slang: That's pants.

Last summer, we wanted to bring back the word rad. Now, we have a new funny British phrase to spread. My aunt Janey kept saying that the rainy weather in England was "pants," as in not good. Don't you just love that? :)

Back from England

Hello, everybody! How are you? We got home last night from a fabulous trip to England. Cornwall has cliff paths over the sparkling ocean, and Dorset has rolling hills with friendly sheep. We felt like we were at the ends of the earth. It was fantastic, especially when we discovered "Scrumpy," an extra-hard Cornish cider. As always, it's an adjustment to be back home--work seems so mountainous!

Introducing my dad.

Um, what? I'm really glad that Ben Affleck is helping children, but seriously, these People Magazine photos are insane. At first, I was sure they were photoshopped, but no, his head is really that big. Like an orange on a toothpick.

Abbey's Delicious Chocolate Pear Tart

Alex and I were lucky enough to be asked (i.e., invited ourselves over) to Abbey and Tim's apartment for dinner on Saturday. Their house was ridiculously gorgeous (after taking covert notes, Alex and I now want a blue sofa, flower paintings, an oversized lamp and a mid century dining room table), and the dinner they made was absolutely delicious. We had multiple helpings of wild mushroom mac n' cheese and a chocolate pear tart. Abbey's tips are to substitute sea salt, canned pears and raw almonds. Yum. I'm hungry again just thinking about it.

Anyway, it was a really lovely night with two really lovely people. Thank you again, Abbey!

Great interview.

I would totally hire this guy, if I owned a company and he applied to it. When he went into the interview, he projected this video onto his shirt. Thumbs up for music, drawings, effort and overall awesomeness.

Update: I just got an email from Beau, who said, "I got an amazing dream job from IDEO Chicago, where I interviewed. I loooooved them." Yay!

The book I'm reading right now stated a scary fact: Apparently, the air in some city apartments is up to 10 times more toxic than outside air. And it's not like Manhattan streets are sparkly clean! Eeks. Apparently, plants help detoxify, so I'm going to stock my bedroom full of greenery, like in this pretty picture.

My good friend Scott has a big space above his sofa, and he's been looking for the right artwork for years. Now and again, I'll suggest something, and today is one of those days! These vintage European posters are pretty rad, including the sunglasses print from last week. Love the old-school typography and in-your-face cheerfulness.
